Whereas on the flipside, when those skillful employees leave the company the labor costs take a domino effect because the firm would lose those employees, the investment made on them, and would have to recruit others, and then train them again. Consequently, these companies must focus on retention of employees, and that can be done by offering them attractive compensation packages, further training, giving autonomy, and promotion. In working structure, they value team relationship, team work, and team achievements; moreover, their employees value the importance of effective communication and employee involvement while making certain decisions and delegating the tasks. Looking Back My Uncle Bempah Essay The person I interviewed for this proposal was my Uncle Kofi Bempah. Kofi was born on 1969 and he is 45 years old. I interviewed my uncle via email, as by phone could not be reached because he was out of the country in Germany. The interview year was in 1991 and he was 22 years old at the time that these life-changing events took place. While talking to my uncle through via email, I asked what three popular movies he liked in the 90s were and his responses were Boyz In Da Hood, New Jack City and Straight Out of Brooklyn. The three urban issues my uncle noticed in the 1990s were gang violence, racism and crime specifically the crack epidemic. Kofi thinks that these urban issues had the greatest impact out of all the things he witnessed during his time. Racism was a huge thing back in his day, but he does not think racisms are as huge of issue in todays world because many people are growing from it and there will more interracial people later in life. While speaking to my uncle he noticed another issue with racism especially in media for example, many African Americans were pressured into playing roles of thugs while Caucasians played many prominent roles like doctors. Another thing that was an issue in his day was gang violence. He mentioned to me that in 1991 police officers beat Rodney King severely. Kofi thinks gangs played a role in his generation, because he told me many of his friends joined a gang because of the unity and the connections. In 1991 there were many gangs terrorizing innocent people, which led to a bad influence on the youth as they viewed gangs were the only legitimate way of making money and establishing power. Lastly, in his generation there was a crack epidemic, which was a major factor in crime in many cities. A great example is how DC was at one point the murder capital with the introduction of crack. Watching New Jack in City, it portrays how drugs ruined many people lives because people became addicted to drugs, which caused gangs to fight for street corners causing many murders. Kofis viewpoint of New Jack City shows how accurate the crack epidemic was, and how one person can manage to control thousands of people through drugs. After the whole interview from my uncle, I was not surprised the answers he gave me because he thinks today is urban issues were dealing with them prior in his days. Make it about quality.The way to frame this is that you donââ¬â¢t want to sacrifice quality i n order to keep up a ridiculous level of output. Donââ¬â¢t make any accusations, just present the situation frankly. Say that youââ¬â¢re concerned the high standards you hold yourself to might suffer given your responsibilities overload. Emphasize that youââ¬â¢re totally up for turning out four high-quality projects at a time, but that six is a bit too much.2. Be concrete.Donââ¬â¢t just say you have too much work. Give concrete examples. Explain how youââ¬â¢ve been assigned several projects on top of your regular workload. And how any one of them would be fine, but cumulatively, youââ¬â¢re having trouble keeping balls in the air. Give an estimate of how much time it would take for you to complete each and then the aggregate time. Then explain how it would be impossible to meet all of the deadlines. Tell your boss all the times youââ¬â¢ve stayed late or worked extra hours to finish, without complaint.3. Discuss deadlines and delegation.It might be an easy fix, li ke staggering deadlines, or outsourcing some projects or tasks to other team members to get the thing done (and well) in a timely fashion- especially if there are any general administrative aspects that donââ¬â¢t require your skillset that could be passed along to support staff to free you up to concentrate on the meat of the project. Set clear priorities showing you value the most important projects and understand the importance of getting them done to standard.4. Stay positive.Soften the blow by focusing on the positive. Frame the conversation by saying ââ¬Å"yesâ⬠to what you can do, and do well, and not ââ¬Å"noâ⬠to all you canââ¬â¢t, i.e., you can do project X, but extra added-on projects and tasks might require you to sacrifice that very important project, which you are not prepared to sacrifice. Keep it positive and use an upbeat, devoted-to-the-company tone, rather than one of despondence or frustration. And show, above all, your willingness to pitch in.5. Ask for help.Never underestimate the power of a third party to help ground you when youââ¬â¢re feeling overwhelmed. Get an outsiderââ¬â¢s perspective on your workload. Theyââ¬â¢ll either tell you to suck it up and get it done, or theyââ¬â¢ll validate your feeling that youââ¬â¢re really being asked to juggle far too much.
